Shit. I just realized that I have yet to write an entry, any entry at all, in October. I'm too irritated by the slowness of my internet connection to risk opening Dreamweaver (which slows it down about 10 times more) right now, so email it is.

I'm listening to the cheezy dance mix 4-CD set I bought at the end of my semester in Amsterdam last fall-- it's both an act of nostalgia for my time there and an attempt to get myself excited about/prepared for the big QU dance this Friday. Unless I live in europe, I'll never be up on the club music scene there again. It makes me sad that these CDs are (and by extension, I am) so out of date.

Part of why I haven't updated is that I've been running my ass off overseeing Coming Out Week festivities. It's a ton of work and niggling little details, but it is really worth it in the end. This is probably the smoothest-running coming out week since I've been at Macalester, and I'm proud that that's in no small part due to my being at the helm of it all. Not that no one else has contributed- I have at least a few dozen volunteers to thank- but I've coordinated nearly the whole thing. Mmm... ego strokage.

Speaking of strokage, I finally got my haircut today. I had been looking like Benji the shaggy dog (I'm mixing my dog movie stars I think) for well over a month, so I was way overdue. In order to counteract the overdueness, I made an appointment at the swanky Aveda salon on Grand. My reasoning is, I get haircuts infrequently enough to justify dropping a lot of cash on one. Plus, I simply don't know anywhere else I can go where I automatically trust every single stylist. Aveda rocks. It provided me with just the kind of bourgeous self-indulgence I could really use this week. Their waiting room has a big soft couch, a fireplace, Bach's cello suites, and gratis (and actually good) coffee. Arriving early was definitely a good thing, because I could bask in the atmosphere (which was oddly conducive to work- I got a lot done in 15 minutes). Upon meeting my stylist (Sarah), she immediately offered me a head massage. Um. Yes. After shampooing me, she offered "a complimentary hand treatment"-- I turned it down to save some time, but yay for free stuff anyway. And the haircut- good! She listened to me and my demands ("Okay, I never blow dry, combing is done more often with fingers than an actual comb, I ride my bike everywhere, and I cannot need a trim until at least 6 weeks from now") and actually gave me exactly what I wanted. Definitely worth the cash.
