I forgot to mention in my last entry that I finished all my work for the semester this past Tuesday. I had a bit of a scare right at the end: The last assignment I had due was a webpage for my Geography class, which was supposed to be posted on the server sometime Tuesday. I finished around noon, emailed my prof to let him know it was done, and, rather anticlimactically, started my summer vacation.
At about 4:30 that same afternoon, I got an email from the prof, saying that he could only get to the splash page and didn't see any navigation links. My first thought, of course, was "I'm done, dammit! I'm supposed to be DONE!!!" Since I did the page in frames, I figured that there was actually a chance that I had fucked up somehow, and started frantically trying to figure out what was wrong. I checked it in the two browsers I have installed, ran it through Anybrowser.com, and asked people on diary-l to have a look at it, too.
As I should have guessed, the problem was not with my site, but with my prof- he can be a bit of a clod at times and isn't exactly technosavvy. Whew.

I've been fighting the inevitable post-finals ennui by working for the Alumni Reunion, which is proving to be one of the more interesting jobs I've had. Basically, the Alumni office hires a squadron of unwitting and broke students to be at their beck and call all weekend, with that "beck and call" mostly consisting of repetitive, meaningless, and/or inefficient tasks.
So far, I've:
- Unwrapped packets of Macalester notecards, sorted them by design, assembled new packets of a different configuration of designs, and tied red ribbon around them.
- Curled ribbon for 3 hours, to be used in table decorations that will be disposed of no more than an hour after they are put out.
- Walked up and down four floors in Doty hall carrying a box full of flowers in vases in order to make sure all the rooms had flowers. They all did. My arms are tired.
- Helped replace the 100 grey folding chairs that had already been set up with 100 black ones in the dining tent on Kagin plaza.
- Covered the tables in said tent with the most hideous color combination of plastic tablecloths ever.
- Rode in a golf cart to Olin-Rice.
- Rode back.
Between various work assignments, we proles mostly hang out in the lounge in Weyerhauser administration building, watching alumni office employees run around attending to millions of incomprehensibly meaningless details. Despite all their efforts (walkie talkies, etc.), the reunion is possibly the most chaotic and bureaucratic operation I've ever taken part in. If I cared, I'd be going nuts. Since I don't, I'm mostly just amused.
